Running a business can be an exhilarating journey, but it can also feel overwhelming and isolating, especially when you hit a plateau. That’s exactly where I found myself recently—stuck and uncertain of the next steps to take for my business. Then, a client and friend who teaches at George Washington University introduced me to a program called Elevate for Entrepreneurs. From the moment she mentioned it, I knew this was the opportunity I needed to reignite my passion and push my business forward.
The program sounded like a perfect fit, so much so that I applied the very same day. But as excited as I was, I couldn’t shake the nerves. Would I be accepted? Could this really be the game-changer I needed? After a few rounds of interviews, I finally received the news I had been anxiously waiting for—I was accepted into the program!
Going into the first session, I quickly realized this wasn’t going to be just any ordinary program. This particular cohort was made up entirely of women of color, all powerful entrepreneurs in their own right. I was the youngest in the group and the only one representing the beauty sector, which felt both intimidating and inspiring. Here I was, surrounded by women who had already accomplished so much, and I couldn’t help but wonder what I could bring to the table.
But as the program progressed, those initial doubts faded. I began to realize just how much I had to learn—not just about my business, but about myself as an entrepreneur. The Elevate program challenged me in ways I hadn’t anticipated. The coursework was intense, pushing me to confront areas of my business that I had overlooked or avoided. There were moments when I felt completely out of my depth, but I knew that growth often comes from discomfort, so I pressed on.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the program was the insight I gained into past decisions. Through group discussions and one-on-one mentoring, I was able to see where I had gone wrong and, more importantly, how I could do better moving forward. The other women in the cohort provided invaluable perspectives, and their experiences helped me see my business from a new angle.
I won’t sugarcoat it—the course kicked my butt. But looking back, I’m incredibly grateful that I stuck with it. The Elevate program didn’t just teach me new strategies for my business; it redefined how I see myself as an entrepreneur. It reignited my passion and gave me the tools to push through obstacles with renewed confidence.
As I move forward, I carry with me the lessons learned, the connections made, and a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to have been part of such an empowering experience. Elevate has set me on a new path, and I’m excited to see where it leads.
